Just had a conversation with another collector of audio stories...an official archive is a must. I have seen how quickly people forget our recent past - and how that loss of memory leads to misinterpretation. All stories are important, but when told by their voices, true treasures.
The difference between archive heritage preservation in any European country and the UK is stark. Especially Northern Ireland, where we have no official film/audio archive with collections scattered and neglected across the country.

After I posted this clip, Brian wanted to point out that the first man mentioned, Jimmy Tinsley, was "a fantastic swimmer...he just had an off day" and that he was to be the pilot for the freezing Welsh men, not #Donaghadee man Walker Simpson.(you'll have to listen now)
Full episode coming tomorrow!
