Cult thinking is based on a mix of distrust of mainstream sources, Stockholm syndrome and an extreme sense that one "is right" -- challenges to any of that become in essence "threats" and it triggers base instinct more than thought. The delusion is deep. At least a third of the population is here.

Years ago, I was having a major fan moment WITH Musk when he sent that car with the spaceman dummy to drift into space, with a copy of #THGTTG and the“Don’t panic” message.
Little did I realise just how seriously he’d taken the whole thing.
We’d all do well to study improbability.

My experience has been the opposite of “learning things is easier when you’re younger”.
Comparing learning C/C++ at 17 vs learning Python in my 30s, I actually understand concepts better and also more easily right now.
