Winter intro - I’m a NY based fashion designer but I post less about fashion and more about about climate/environmental issues, covid/disability rights, all things SWANA, & animal rights these days. Went from NYC to rural NY where I grow veggies and dahlias & live with our rescue fur family
For get the garment industry - there are a lot of industries where it is really dangerous to not have oversight over manufacturing domestically *coughs Lebanon pager attack* coughs

Do you want to help fight the genocide in Occupied Palestine, but you're not sure where to start? Participating in BDS is an easy way to stand in solidarity with Palestine. Start with one brand on the list and expand from there!

This law will cause people to die, and that is not hyperbole. The genocide of trans people in the United States is accelerating.

Using generative AI isn't liberatory. It's actively harmful to marginalized people and the planet and the casual way people who call themselves "progressives" will use it without considering the consequences is one of the reasons we're where we are.

Stop using generative AI.

Someone or several someones in my neighborhood don’t pick up after their dog and the snow is melting and revealing their gross behavior - it’s not that hard to be a responsible owner. (Please don’t blame dogs this is an owner issue)

New tomato seeds have arrived! I am going to try growing more full sized/slicer varieties this year after years of basically focusing on cherry/salad sized ones. I think tomatoes and dahlias are my two favorite things to grow

Fallout from the files overseas is bigger than the fallout in US… but maybe ours is a spiritual fallout bc all our rivers and waterways are experiencing catastrophic pollution events and hundreds/thousands of birds are dropping dead so…

This app is extremely liberal echo chamber at the moment. it never shows more than during moments like this where US refueling planes head to Middle East in likely precursor to strikes on Iran…meanwhile Russia and China are there running drills? And everyone is talking about… other stuff.

First day fasting is usually the hardest but it surprisingly wasn’t today, I stepped down cups of coffee earlier in week which might have made a difference. (And I know the debate around day of start we just decided it didn’t matter if we started early we could do an extra day if needed)

I will also say that going through a decade or more of emails was like an archaeological dig - it came in trends & waves. Was funny to go back further & further seeing it shift. Leaks definitely impacted quality of targeting became less accurate from 2014-2024, at least the early spam made sense.

Been sharing my observations about switching my email to proton with friends this week - and the biggest takeaway is two things: prior to 2014 we all used to make plans by email, now it’s text and social media. Email inboxes used to be useable before spam and email lists made them unusable.

Google actually used to be good! It used to make useful products! There was a period between like 2005-15 where "tech" was broadly useable and mostly not horrible! All gone now, like tears in rain.
Basically: the best social network was Google Reader and everything since then has been a horrible mistake.
this & other comments i've seen about how bluesky needs to "improve its algorithm" suggest a lot of people have grown to like a totally passive social media experience where a computer pushes an endless stream of content tailored to what it thinks they would like while they clap like seals

this is a good point, so many still using it are being shifted right without realizing it.

PS The reason I’m there is because of the copyright & impersonation policies recycling of old usernames - don’t want impersonators using my biz handle & keeping them is better than the havoc that could wreak.
journalists think they "learn more" on X because it is durably shifting users' views on policy and current events towards conservative positions -- which assuredly nets them more positive attention and engagement on the platform
