A statement from our Vice Chair on the State Department's direction to all employees and agencies to "refrain from publicly promoting World AIDS Day through any communication channels.” Part 1 of 3 I survived a time when many of my friends didn’t. In the late seventies and early eighties, none of us knew how to protect ourselves. We didn’t know what caused the mysterious illness—only that gay men and people of Haitian descent were getting sick. You couldn’t have chosen a group viewed as more expendable by the new Senate Republican majority elected alongside Ronald Reagan in 1980. Rumors spread faster than the virus, stigma replaced compassion, families abandoned their own, and even funeral homes refused to take the bodies. It felt as though the fragile beginnings of the gay rights movement had been crushed—never to rise again and trouble the upstanding, Moral Majority–backed Republicans in Congress. I was in college in the middle of the country, where the disease had not yet appeared—but that didn’t last. By the early eighties, the gay community in Dallas began to sicken. I watched as many of my friends succumbed. It was an apocalypse for our community. The government’s silence was not just indifference; it was policy. Part 2 of 3 And now, under the renewed hostility of this administration, I feel the chill of that silence again. Ending World AIDS Day, dismantling prevention programs, and reviving the politics of stigma will not only harm LGBTQ+ people—it will harm everyone. Public health does not fail politely or selectively. The same regions loudly cheering these rollbacks are already suffering the worst health outcomes in the nation: soaring teen pregnancy, rampant STDs, drug deaths, and collapsing hospital systems. When you strip away prevention, information, and compassion, the consequences do not stay confined to the people you intended to punish. Part 3 of 3 But there is another part of this story. The gay community did not accept defeat the first time. ACT UP and countless activists mobilized science, medicine, and politics to force change and save lives. We transformed the fight against HIV through courage, rage, and relentless organizing. And this time, we are not alone. The LGBTQ+ community, our allies, public-health workers, scientists, parents, and ordinary Americans all stand to lose if this rollback continues. We are in this catastrophe together. And we will show—again—how you fight back, how you organize, and how you refuse to be erased.

When Trump saw a video calling on the military to follow the constitution, he called for the death of the Democrats who made the video.

On the Tustin Unified School District's resolution to ban Trans and gender-non-conforming kids from sports: The Right continues to attack the Trans and gender-non-conforming communities — this time in the Tustin Unified School District. Under the thinly-veiled guise of Title IX violations, they’re following the same playbook that other OC school districts have used. (San Juan Cap USD comes to mind.) There isn’t one known trans or gender-non-conforming athlete in TUSD, yet suddenly there’s an urgent drive to “save girls sports” — or so the opposition says.
