“why am i in my 30s invested in this teen show” i could be 73 and i will still happily get on my soapbox about why this is a fake love triangle, and how this is actually a story about young people navigating grief, and laurel park trying not to crash out after losing her wife !!!

a pro (or con depending on how you view it) of still coming down from the SDCC high is that i am juuuuuust delirious enough to work in “august sipped away like a bottle of wine” in an email to a colleague without thinking twice about it ✌🏽

ALA is alarmed by the termination of the Digital Equity Act grants program, a seismic investment in America's digital infrastructure.

This abrupt & illegal termination is extremely concerning for the libraries relying on funding to connect their communities. More: www.ala.org/news/2025/05...

i’ve been in this country for almost a decade now, and still no one has given me a straight answer on why some midwestern states aren’t actually IN the midwest geographically speaking? it’s starting to feel like a conspiracy

When I was a buyer at a large indie, my rule of thumb was:

1 preorder: huh, let me take a closer look at this one
2 preorders: we need to stock this book
3 preorders: we should order enough to face this out
4+ preorders: this should be on front-of-store display
More detail: When booksellers get pre-orders, it's a quantitative and qualitative signal that there is like *something here* about a book. The avalanche of new books out there is hard to communicate if you're not in the industry, and pre-orders are one of vanishingly few signals. It is a real thing!
The thing about pre-orders: If you pre-order thru an indie bookstore (which generally doesn't cost you up-front!) it is HUGE for the lifeblood of the book, it is a boost to authors, the publisher, and the booksellers who steward this life. It's a little thing but it's meaningful should this inspire!
