Like running a marathon, unmedicated birth is: best done in a supportive community with medical professionals present, pretty badass to do (although some people will think you are crazy), neither more or less natural or objectively healthier than choosing not to. And yes, you should get a medal.

Honestly, I have the exactly same advice for anyone thinking about going to law school to become a public interest attorney. Law school is a soul-sucking means to an end, and living in a big city means you have tons of non-law friends and hobbies and keep your sanity intact.

Unsolicited advice: get all the ingredients for a cake (or a boxed cake mix, if that’s your jam). When you start going into labor, but before you’re ready to head to the hospital, BAKE THAT CAKE. It’ll distract you, keep your labor progressing AND you get to eat it very very soon.
