some conversations this morning have me wondering: book folks, what do you wish there were more of in how books are covered? and by that I mean: lists? reviews? columns? themed essays? straight-up recommendations? something else I've never thought of?

december is just a haze of blurbs. constant blurb writing. i know i’ll eventually finish all my end-of-year list blurbs, but until then the word “blurb” itself is going to feel like a spell someone cast on me

adrienne is an absolute force to be reckoned with, in the books business and beyond. hearst and esquire are worse off without her taste and curation, as well as her reporting and editing skills. but, knowing her talents, i look forward to seeing her remarkable work elsewhere.
After nearly nine years at Esquire, I’ve been laid off from my role as Books and Fiction Editor. I’m looking for a new full-time role where I can use my storytelling skills, in the book world or beyond it. If you know of anything, I’m at adriennewestenfeld@gmail.com. (🧵1/10)

fascinating to see which media brands have quickly formulated bluesky strategies and which remain (stubbornly? naively?) focused on twitter

This is how you become a writer: just pick one of the things that is deeply wrong with you. Make it a character. Now send it on a self-help journey or try to kill it. Now call it a book.

like everyone, i’m always yearning for the Once and Future Platform but it’s never been more apparent to me that reality and information and art increasingly live in 100000 separate ecosystems at once. alas!

spent the past few months reporting this story about women, hollywood, the strikes, Peak TV, the box office, and how it all continues to create such a ridiculous amount of disparity behind the camera.
Women Creatives Thought Hollywood Could Change. Were They Wrong?
Behind the camera, prospects for gender parity remain bleak—so these women are fighting to reverse course.
