I have put signs up in our building on what to do in an ICE raid. I wish I could do more. I'm calling representatives, I'm protesting, and providing resources. Please take care of yourself during this time ❤️🧪 THIS IS NOT OKAY.

It's a really awful time to be an American virologist in the last year of my PhD... Thankfully, I just got a ton of sequencing data so I can stare down the supercomputer to finally run my script correctly instead of doomscrolling...
The sheer volume of time and energy being spent by thousands of university-based researchers in *every* field right now to figure out if their funding will exist next month or next year, if their careers can even continue… just citing dollar values doesn’t do it justice, it is full-scale upheaval.

With all this craziness, I am really excited to announce I received the CSU One Health Institute award on my project: "Investigating Small RNA Molecules in a Bat Cell Model in Response to Mosquito-Borne and No-known-vector Flaviviruses" A nice little science win this week! 🧪🧬🦇

8 years ago, I marched for science. What's the same: same president, same sweatshirt, same science denials. What's different: I have a PI that supports my success, I am getting the PhD I dreamed of, and all of us are ready to fight, I think, even harder than before. #standupforscience2025 #science

I will be at the Stand Up for Science protest on Friday, regardless of this administrations attempts to block us. #science #resist
This is not about cleaning up after last year’s protests; this is about getting out ahead of what is coming.

Ending virology and vaccine research is far more dangerous than virology and vaccine research itself.

We can mitigate risks in the lab, but we can’t mitigate the catastrophic risk of being unprepared and defenseless against emerging viruses.
It is worth paying close attention to the new bill "Dangerous Viral Gain of Function Research Moratorium Act" introduced by Senator Roger Marshall.

If enacted, it will effectively stop all of virological research, including for vaccines.
