I referring to the carbon pricing system implemented by the feds [what @citizenslobbyca.bsky.social called "CarbonFee and Dividend"] to ensure all Canada had something in place.

The only thing wrong with our carbon pricing was that the carbon fee wasn't high enough.

I knew you had your own thing (as Ontario did until Mr Ford dismantled it), which is why I found it funny Mr Poilievre went to BC promising to axe the [Trudeau] tax. Sadly since the MSM neglected to clarify, it stopped being funny.

I didn't know about your rebates.

What did the Supreme Court do that violated the Constitution?

(I'm a Canadian, its hard enough to keep up with my own government's malfeasance)

Same is true here in Canada: countries with #WinnerTakeAll political systems create politically disengaged citizens. Why vote if you're villified if you vote third party? You're told your vote will elect what you don't want.

Why pay attention to government if you've zero power to change anything?

And will these citizens will incarcerate such offenders... where?

Laws, like civil rights, are only as good as the governments that enforce them.

Or not.

The problem is that the system allows this to happen at all.

Elon Musk wasn't elected, Mr Trump was elected "king" with the power to hand him the power to do this.
April 21, 2025 at 3:57 PM
Right. Mr Nixon's party held him accountable..

Mr Trump's party did not.

Did your Constitution change?

The real problem seems to be a Winner-take-all political system without any real checks & balances. Mr Trump was elected "king" & is taking full advantage of the power that came with the job.

You might call it government "by the people, for the people."

One of the best features of universality is elimination of the bureaucracy designed to police the poor.

With (livable) #UBI, that would stop, with enormous savings. Better still: social workers would still be needed for those who need hep; they'd be able to do what they went to school to learn.

Poor Mr Nixon didn't realize he could have thumbed his nose and gotten clean away without any consequences.

We don't get to choose the Prime minister. If we're one of the lucky few, our vote for our local candidate might elect an MP. And if we're very very lucky, that MP might actually represent us in Parliament.

Luckiest of all would be any flavor of minority government.
