Powerful final message from Jim Acosta if you haven’t seen it already.
Jim Acosta announces on air that he's leaving CNN and says, "it is never a good time to bow down to a tyrant ... don't give in to the lies."

Sharing this one so I can keep track of the suggestions of comfort reads.
I think I need to stay off of all social media save for BlueSky for the next couple of weeks or so, it's too dang depressing. #BookSky 💙📚 I need some comfort reads, what do you have for me? Self recs welcome! I'm talking some Anne of Green Gables level of comfort. (Which is my 10/10 marker)

Please be extra kind to the void today, there’s a lot of people out there screaming and the lines aren’t the void’s fault

It is beyond Trump's announcement that "there are only two genders."

Trump's executive orders threaten to detransition up to 1,500 incarcerated trans women and jeopardize the medical care of 276,000 trans adults on Medicaid.

@msjpauly.bsky.social reports what we know so far.
Trump declares war on transgender people
"We are not going anywhere, and we will fight back against these harmful provisions with everything we’ve got."

States with a smaller population than Los Angeles County.

As activist Kipp Dawson says, “Let us respond to this situation recognizing that Los Angeles is all of us. —If we can’t place ourselves among the humans (and other life forms) under duress, what have we become?”

I already wanted to see the new Dylan movie, but now I also want to see it for its eerie not-quite erasure of Toshi Seeger. Get past the first few paragraphs to get to a thorough analysis.
This piece about Toshi Seeger in the new Bob Dylan movie is a hilarious explainer of the very Hollywood problem: “there’s a woman in this story that we can’t get rid of because she kind of ran everything so what can we possibly do?”

Here comes the hate.
A wave of offensive text messages and emails has gone out to Hispanic and LGBTQ people in recent days, according to the FBI, coming on the heels of a barrage of racist texts that were sent to Black people in the wake of the election.
New Wave of Offensive Texts Targets Hispanic and L.G.B.T.Q. People
The F.B.I. is investigating messages that told people they would be deported or transported to a “re-education camp.” They came after racist texts were sent to Black people.

“I have breathed in respect for ‘people like us’ in history, across the planet now, and those to come. Especially women. …As historians have begun to call us, people ‘from below.’ …People whose stories are whispered and sung out loud, but don’t do what they do to be noticed.”

Ugh. We need changes to the laws about overtime pay (and while we’re at it, the minimum wage!)
President Biden tried to raise the overtime threshold, which is the point where salaried workers are entitled to earn overtime pay. It would have helped millions. A Trump appointed judge in Texas just blocked it.

Please tell me you see which party is actually fighting for the average worker.

We need more women in office. We need more of every other kind of diversity, too, but today I’m furious about the ongoing implicit (and explicit!) bias against women in leadership roles.

Saw these posts the day after the election.
