I don’t feel like a doomer. I feel like a realist. Every norm has been broken, and though many, many people are working hard against the fascists, relying on that which is already broken to save us or restore order or whatever seems incredibly naive.
I just had exactly this conversation this morning. I’ve had this conversation thousands of times at this point. Some people get angry with me. They call me a Doomer. That’s fine. I just don’t know what people see.
I’ve been having a few too many conversations like this. Them: Hi Kate, how are things with your work, with the world? Me: the university is under attack, democratic norms being broken in half, so, pretty bad. Them: But everything is going to come back and be okay after the midterms. Me: Uhh, no.
