I spent an excessive number of years moderating a gaming forum and I learned a great deal about community spaces and cultivation, whether I wanted to or not. I have critical advice for anyone who runs a game store or gaming convention. Please share this thread with people who run those things.

Finally beat Lost Lace after only 2 hours somehow???
#Silksong 100% complete, I can rest at last.
Hilariously it was a poison cogfly that dealt the killing blow.

I spent more time on Savage Beastfly than I did on the final boss. I also had way more fun with the final boss?? Crazy the difference a short walkup and no minions makes.

Silksong is good but I do wish it told you midair healing is an option.
I was 15 hours in and had beaten Widow before I found out from someone else that it was a thing.
Thinking of the very easy healing window I could have had in that fight if I'd known it was possible and fuming.

This is a good piece on a thing that genuinely sucks, but also it's easily solved by doing what I do: get all your podcast recommendations from mentally ill trans women.
Of this entire 100+ show list I've heard of 7 of them and listened to 3. None of those are the top 3 mentioned here.

Okay another strike against A Murderous Yarn, despite containing a flood of Stanley Steamer Fun FactsTM, it completely fails to mention that Francis Edgar Stanley, one of the two brothers who invented it, was killed in a Stanley Steamer crash.

The process was indeed easy, go do this if you can.
Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears. This is our moment, let's get these people shut down.

I encourage everyone to just go block this dipshit immediately, let him starve to death in a dark corner and he'll be forced to fuck off with nothing to show for it.

TIL that "author" James Frey exists and is distinct from author James N. Frey. I've covered one of James N. Frey's books before (see below) and I can't express how upset I was for the couple of minutes I thought he'd pivoted to AI garbage.

Entire podcasts were dedicated to the question of what JK Rowling has ever done that’s transphobic. She has openly been working toward this outcome for years.
You all need to treat Harry Potter IP like we’re treating the Tesla brand.

the labor of art is mostly invisible. what you don't see in a finished piece is all the hours of thought it required, all the little discoveries and surprises and tragedies of production. art IS the process. if you aren't interested in the process, then i don't really know why you want to be artist

I want to give a big shout out to quotation marks, hugely underrated piece of punctuation.

Currently reading The Castle of Otranto and not appreciating that all the dialogue is just inline with the rest of the text with zero differentiation.

As is tradition for this #blog, it's time for me to look back at what I've read and pick out my favourite #books of last year.

And also rip into a book I hated.

This book was so bad I had to do an investigation into it and the mystery genre in general to figure out how it could possibly suck so much. For your enjoyment, here are the results:
