It's the one piece of mine I don't ever take money for and allow everyone who asks to reprint it. In the cases where people who wanted to reprint it weren't allowed not to pay for it, I assigned the payment to hunger and poverty related charities.
@scalzi.com will likely not remember this but nearly 20 years ago, he allowed me to reprint in my nonprofit's organizational newsletter an essay he wrote on "Being Poor". I've long since moved on from the Missouri Association for Community Action - but I will always appreciate John Scalzi for that.

If you don't already have your US passport, notarized birth certificate, some kind of RealID-qualifying state-issued photo ID, Social Security Number card, and certified proof of any/all name changes from your birth cert ... you need to get those things, stat.

Yep. It's about driving small farmers out of business, so BigAg can buy up their land on the cheap.
Closing rural post offices will do the same thing that closing rural schools has done: Empty out rural towns.

Why? To sell off farmland for rock bottom prices to the oligarchs. Water and mineral rights and CAFOs polluting with impunity.

It’s been the plan for decades.

Your birthright US citizenship will not protect you.
Government abductions are unconstitutional.

Denying anyone the right to due process in America is unconstitutional.

If you’ve rationalized your silence or support for any of it because it’s happening to those you disagree with, give it a minute…

They’ll get to you soon enough.

Toldyaso. If you're seeing my posts, we probably agree that responsible economists warned us months ago that this would happen. It's worse than expected - we're in for a rough ride.
"Core prices ticked up another 0.4%, higher than the January increase.

"The increase, which was more than what economists had expected, was driven by a rise in prices for everyday items, suggesting Mr. Trump’s tariffs are starting to have a more notable impact. .."

The regime is trying to force law firms out of the business of fighting cases against the regime by issuing illegal, unconstitutional orders to cut off things like security clearances necessary to defend clients involved in NatSec.
WilmerHale was polite, professional, and direct.

BigLaw could learn. Now, WilmerHale needs to actually fight this thing out. These orders are blatantly, insanely unconstitutional.

Follow the money. Why's Elon doing this? Follow the money.
Since January, SpaceX has received over $560 million in government contracts—an amount projected to surpass $2 billion in taxpayer funding by year’s end, averaging roughly $6.1 million per day. Follow the money and see where it goes.

This should be illegal, as voter suppression. However - it only works if you don't know your rights as a voter. Learn your rights. Then you can ignore the lying scumbags sending these texts.
Wisconsin residents are receiving text messages from a (202) D.C. area code, falsely urging them not to vote in the upcoming election. These messages are not legitimate.

The DC Circuit’s decision upholding Judge Boasberg’s TRO against the lawless deportations of Venezuelans to El Salvador by Trump & Co was ironclad. Both Judge Millett and Judge Henderson wrote magnificent opinions. Judge Walker dissented — in a lame opinion.

Disabled people take a huge risk every time we organise against disability cuts. There have been cases of presence at an action being used to cut off eligibility, because the DWP wilfully misrepresents disability. This is why we need the rest of you.

Someone explain to the GOP women this also means no more Fourth Wing or Sarah J Maas for them.

Because they’re going after everything under this guise of protection.

It’s erasure AND control.
They will say—and weaker Dems will say— "oh, this is just about protecting kids from actual pornography. They're not *really* going after LGBTQ+ content, or sex scenes in literature or sex education!"

Forty days into this administration, I beg you to take them at their word: they want to and will.
