Christian, Husband, Father, Professor, and Social Scientist. PhD in something I was told I should be able to explain in less than 30 seconds. I’m the people’s curmudgeon - happiest grumpy person you’ll ever meet.

There will be typos.

Thanks.
I really should have put together a panel on DEI and activism for SIOP 26. That’s my bad. I hope someone else made the move.

Me still researching, teaching, and speaking on leadership + DEI because it’s part of my professional identity, it’s what I love, and I won’t/can’t erase that.

Happy new semester!

I’m either extremely productive before a Zoom meeting and show up late because I was absorbed by the work, or I’m not productive at all and show up on time.

Sent my doc student dissertation draft feedback in less than 24 hours just to spook her. I know you thought you’d have a few days off. Nope! Back at ya! 🤣

I know people aren’t inviting Musk back into their safe spaces because he picked a fight with Trump… A wolf that bites another wolf isn’t protecting you. It’s protecting its dinner. You’re next.

As long as the bar for racism is set by racists, we’ll be here.
One of the more frustrating things about the way many think about racism is that unless someone uses slurs, mainstream outlets and some academics give the benefit of the doubt.

You can resegregate schools, lie and claim that it’s about “markets” or “choice,” and get invites in polite society.

Rand Paul effectively admitting that the US is the biggest arms dealer in the world while sitting in a congress that does the bare minimum when it comes to preventing school shootings is the kind of sobering moment that “Second Amendment Americans” need but will likely ignore.

If someone pours bleach in your drinking water, waits around until you’re dehydrated, and then gives you fresh water just before you’re too far gone, you’re thankful for that clean water because it was a relief - it’s a good thing. However, you shouldn’t forget who tainted the water.

Can’t figure out what it is about my LinkedIn profile that makes automated ads inbox me about getting an MBA.

I hooded my first phd student last week. I couldn’t be prouder of her hard work and list of accomplishments. We’re now academic cousins.

“Michael” called to tell me my tv receiver box was out of date and I would no longer receive a signal. I told “Michael” that I don’t own such a device, and I could hear the disappointment in his voice. This scam would have been top tier in 2009. Times have changed, Michael. We stream now.

Recent BBQ content. We love jerk chicken.

@hakeemjefferson.bsky.social @neillewisjr.bsky.social I used that recipe from Dole. Don’t sleep. 🤣

I’ve never felt good about Gavin Newsom. I could definitely put my finger on why, but I figured there was no need to share because he’d do it eventually. And here we are.

…we knew he’d go after civil rights at the highest level. Y’all were really holding out hope?

Another huge ruling! The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals just DENIED the government's motion for a stay in the trans military ban case.

The government CANNOT enforce it's ban on transgender people in the military still.

BIG day for pro-transgender rulings.

I can’t stand folks that write a comment on a post and then write “next” at the end. Who raised you?

“Autism on the rise” is a potentially misleading phrase. It makes strong assumptions about measurement that we probably shouldn’t make. Part of the issue is that most are focusing on children while ignoring adults. Focusing on kids is understandable, but we risk operating w/o a clear baseline.

Is anyone studying content creators and their relationships with social media platforms? I create bbq content for fun, and I’ve been stuck just under 5K followers for months. It’s obvious they want me to pay for ads to get to 5K. My engagement is down no matter what I do. Interesting thing here…

Letting my boys stay up to watch the NCAA Men’s Championship game is the kind of dad behavior I look forward to. Although our team lost, we won when it comes to memories.

47 keeps defining groceries as if it’s a novel concept. He’s incapable of appreciating the difference between $100 in groceries 10-20 years ago versus today because he’s never needed to shop for his own food and supplies. Instead of asking about prices, ask him how he’s saved money in the store.

Mike Johnson may be the worst of the capitulating GOP. His lack of affect and willingness to lie and mislead in the name of 47 is sickening. He knows better and chooses positioning rather than support of the American people. The “great project” was nothing more than a fever dream if this continues.
