The forest critters are gathering. They're done with grief and heaviness. They've been collecting matches and sharpening sticks, but they're also restoring marshes and tearing down dams.

WIP, but thought I'd post it for NYE. Stay safe, you are needed.

One thing you will never think after reading a great book or listening to a great album or seeing a great piece of art is, “I’m really glad this person remained cautious while they were making this and guarded against being perceived as weird.”

All right, Booksky: it's my 2025 Books of the Year post! Get your book recs here.

Featuring lashings of romance and SFFH, a fair bit of murder, and some extremely specific history nerding, like you weren't expecting that.

OK, I have had a few weird coincidences for this book, of the usual "I put in X thing and it turned out to be weirdly relevant" type. However.

My little naturalist heart has been so happy learning all the poisonous plants facts in T Kingfisher's Hemlock and Silver. AND JUST LOOK AT THAT COVER ART!

I will say the most fantastical element of this book wasn't the demons or the magic, but the main character's lack of existential crises about her career and the value she was bringing to the world.

Is this something I can look forward to later in my thirties?

I absolutely devoured this book by Emily Tesh. As someone who has stood in front of a classroom of blank bored faces, her descriptions of teaching and classroom dynamics were a joy to read and I felt like I learned how to be a better teacher. All while reading an extremely engrossing fantasy novel!
