The relative comfort with which most of our Democratic Senators live has blinded many of them to the true peril of this present moment. At least eight of them (probably closer to 20), do not have the strength needed to defend this Republic.

I have 100% confidence in the fact that the framers of the Constitution did not intend the power of Presidential pardons to extend to pardoning those actively assisting that same President in the commission of federal crimes.

We must pass a Constitutional amendment to take the power of the pardon away from the President. Any possible good that could come from a President having that ability is completely overwhelmed by the vast potential for abuse.

In a few days, you may be notified that your health insurance premiums will double, because of Republican cuts to health care. Democrats are fighting to change that before it's too late.

At some point, the leadership of the various states' national gurards are going to have some difficult choices to make. They can either defend the people and the elected governments of their state, or they can break their oaths and co-operate with those that seek to subvert the U.S. Constitution.

These are the lowest cost insurance options for a 62 year old Georgian making $65k.

2025: $228
2026: $1142

She will lose $704/month in credits because of GOP cuts to health care.

This is a crisis. We cannot wait to fix this.

This government shutdown is happening for one reason and one reason only. Republicans, who hold the majority in both houses, chose not to pass a budget through reconcilation when they had the opportunity to do so. They could have done so with only Republican votes, but Trump was in a hurry so ...

Maybe this meeting today with the generals is a good thing. One of the reasons this regime has gotten away with so much is people's willingness to normalize things and deny just how crazy it's gotten. But today, our top brass got their noses rubbed in it. They can deny no more.

We need CBP, because borders should mean something and our territorial integrity must be maintained.

ICE, on the other hand, should be abolished.

The United States isn't what it used to be, but for many years we really did (imperfectly) lead the free world. Now, the EU needs to step up and take our place. And it will require sacrifices, but probaby none so dear as those that Americans are about to experience.

We need a constitutional amendment to strip the power of the pardon away from the presidency. I know that there are some positives to a normal president having this power, but, sadly, the potential for abuse is far too high.

The bull is still loose in the china shop. Markets might find their temporary comfort level based on what's happened so far, but there's no telling what happens next. We're like the kids on the boat in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

I agree. To every corporation and public figure that bent the knee to this authoritarian, I see you and I will remember that there are other services and voices that deserve my money and support. The cynical profiteers and cowards won’t get a dime from me, if I can help it.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the market were to absorb this shock and rebound within a few days time. The sheer amounts of denial and normalcy bias demonstrated to date have been stupefying, and that could take a lot longer to wear off than many might expect.
