Bob Dylan and Suze Rotolo by Joe Alper, 1962

"Bob was charismatic: he was a beacon, a lighthouse. He was also a black hole. He required committed backup and protection I was unable to provide consistently, probably because I needed them myself."

The studio version and the live version are both masterpieces, but so different from one another!

I was 9 when the 70s ended, but I saw a lot of shows in the 80s and beyond, including many artists that came to fame in the 60s and 70s. First concert was Deep Purple's "Perfect Strangers" tour in '84 - original lineup.

A few years ago I was telling a younger guy I worked with about those commercials and he said, "Isn't that kind of racist?" I hadn't thought about it before, but I had to admit that he was right. Just like those stereotypical cartoon characters we grew up with like Speedy Gonzales, etc.

I got it when it first came out & play it every year. If you enjoy the timbre of Dylan's 2000s voice & Christmas songs, this is a good combination on most tracks. Standouts are I'll be Home for Christmas, Little Drummer Boy, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Must Be Santa, & Silver Bells.
