Right. And voting in a primary or taking part in the caucus is about influencing who ends up on the ballot. Lot of people in these replies willfully misunderstanding that.

Yes. Massachusetts is different. As an Independent I get to choose which primary I wish to vote in. If your state doesn't work like that, absolutely hang on to your party affiliation and primary out your weak representatives.

Also just because a person is registered Dem to vote in the primary (or in my state, take part in the caucus) doesn't mean they have to vote for the Dem in the general if a bad Dem ends up on the ballot.

Think of voting in the Democratic primary as taking a vote away from bad Democrat candidates. If you don't vote in that primary, you don't get the opportunity to vote against the worst Dems early in the process and hopefully keep them off the ballot in the general election.
