It's not politics is a profession free of mischief makers is it? Why do their work for them and damage your own profession's reputation at the same time?

I try to turn off until something is actually confirmed and this was something I felt under the Tories too and said on twitter at time.

just repeating everything briefed and becoming the briefer's mouthpiece?
November 14, 2025 at 11:24 AM
Also not suggesting at all that there's no source for inaccurate stories. It's just that evaluating whether a source is telling you something insightful or just playing political games should surely come into political reporting otherwise you're just a gossip columnist.

them at all but scepticism is understandable.

Yeah, saying lay people are stupid for not correctly decoding terms used seemed a little snobbish. There's been plenty of prominent briefed stories which have turned out to be nonsense - Starmer not going to COP, Miliband, Nandy and Phillipson going in reshuffle. Not suggesting tax rises was one of

Again, lack of knowledge is fine but don't use things as examples when you don't know what you're on about.

"The Irish"? You don't think that betrays an ignorance of the situation?
November 9, 2025 at 8:14 PM
But he also then said "we could have laughed at the Irish during the Troubles". He sounded completely out of his depth and rather silly.

What did Mandela negotiate with ANC?
November 9, 2025 at 6:18 PM
What did he mean by Mandela negotiating with ANC?
There's nothing wrong with not having knowledge. There is something wrong with trying to wing it like this. He shouldn't be using stuff he's clearly ignorant about to draw comparisons
