Curious to know what yahoo says today! nhl.com says 2 goals against, but 28 saves on 29 shots

It’s apparently not a shot for Walker or a goal against Woll www.shapshotshockey.com/p/yes-own-go...
Yes, own goals officially exist in the NHL
I had no idea until this week. So I did some research.

Since 2022-23, I think

Justine Firnhaber-Baker's the House of Lilies was wonderful and picked up the narrative nicely from the end of Oathbreakers!

Up to a 99 point pace now too. Amazing what a healthy offseason and a competent power play can do

I didn’t see a similar game-by-game drop in his skating metrics to the way his shot metrics dropped, but it does seem like he’s been less aggressive about activating offensively all year

He’s apparently been dealing with an injury the past couple of weeks. He wasn’t great before then but he really fell off a cliff around game 9 or 10 (chart from before montreal game)

Yeah, I think of those articles that pop up now and then of college professors saying kids don't know how to read anymore, but I feel like tiktok and youtube usually get the brunt of the blame in those

I've never heard of this, I learned phonics (Texas, late 90s). I'd be really interested to see a breakdown of users for different social networks or a breakdown for how people get their news. I'd think text-based networks like blue sky or written news sources have more phonics learners

During the original run I stopped watching in the middle of season 5 because it felt like Leslie and friends won whatever the conflict of the week was too easily, but recently I rewatched seasons 2 and 3 and the too easy wins are apparent even then
November 5, 2025 at 7:06 PM
The "problem" with Parks and Rec, imo, is it presented a world where Leslie was almost always able to reach a compromise with Ron or flat out convince him she was right with very little effort and things haven't worked that way in the real world

This is a bit convoluted, but if actual attempts declined for tactical reasons while recorded attempts increased and more shots on goal were ruled misses wouldn’t that explain it?
November 3, 2025 at 11:28 PM
I agree there’s probably a change in shot selection/tactics, I’m just skeptical that it would be all at once to that degree across the entire league. Especially when the NHL just happened to release the EDGE portal at the start of that season
November 3, 2025 at 11:12 PM
That was my guess, but I don't have a chart ready for that
November 3, 2025 at 10:19 PM
xfSh% also jumped big time in 22-23 (evolving-hockey's version)
November 3, 2025 at 10:17 PM
There might not have been a jump in shooting/save %, but there was a pretty major change in locations in 23-24 (charts are from last December). Also, fenwick shooting % and regular shooting % had been climbing together until 22-23, but fSh% dropped after that while Sh% keeps increasing
November 3, 2025 at 10:16 PM
One thing I forgot to mention is in 23-24 the NHL started including "short" shots, broken sticks and "flubbed" shots and in 24-25 they started including "failed bank attempts" as types of missed shots in addition to wide, over the net, and off the post. I'm not sure how those were handled before
November 3, 2025 at 10:05 PM
Thank you!
November 3, 2025 at 7:02 PM
This might also interest you, in 23-24 the NHL started including shots blocked by teammates or "other" increasing raw blocks by about 0.3/60 at 5v5
November 3, 2025 at 6:32 PM
It looks to me like 22-23 they started to roll out the chip tracking, 23-24 they started using it in all buildings, and 24-25 they made some adjustments to their methodology around misses that they've stuck with for this season, but that's purely a guess
November 3, 2025 at 6:27 PM
I think it's mostly shots being recorded as misses, the changes in 5v5 on/60 and miss/60 in 22-23 and 23-24 almost perfectly offset, before that the year-to-year change mostly moved together. 24-25 they don't offset as nicely, but still move in opposite directions. This year they're back together
