The orphans in our care have forged their own families, finding strength in one another. As deeply tactile creatures, they seek comfort in closeness – a trunk draped gently over a friend's back, simply being together. Family, after all, is who shows up for you.

Thank you for showing up for them.

Notty the zebra and Tytan the rhino – an unusual friendship, borne out of a shared experience of loss. Now in the care of our Nairobi Nursery, these two do everything together. As they grow older, we expect this friendship to naturally wane, but for now, they are inseparable: swt.bio/tytan

Orphaned elephants grieve just like we do. When two-month-old Kaikai lost her mother, she paced through the nights, calling out. But with love, traumatised babies can pull through. Once Kaikai realized Keepers like Mishak would always be there, she began to turn the page: swt.bio/kaikai

Collapsed and then attacked by hyenas, this elephant needed a helping hand.

Time was running out. After a truly harrowing experience, the bull was saved.

The delicious laugh at the end is the best
It’s Jeremy Brett’s birthday
Here’s my favourite Holmes delivering a pub fight masterclass with panache, killer moves & a knowing smile.
He even gets a round of applause from the regulars at the end.
Love the post-fight analysis with Watson.
The man was ridiculously watchable.

Watching wild herds approach our orphan units reminds us why this work matters. These elephants know Umani Reintegration Unit is a safe haven. They bring their calves, browse peacefully nearby, and sometimes mingle with our orphans – a beautiful testament to the trust we've built in this landscape.

Sharks absolutely get cancer, and people claiming otherwise are pseudoscientific grifters preying on the desperate.

Even if sharks did not get cancer, eating shark would not cure your cancer any more than eating LeBron James would make you better at basketball.

It's harrowing seeing some clueless North Americans accidentally stumble into Irish Bsky.

It's like one of those nature documentaries where an ant colony strips an antelope to the bone.

Always gladdens my heart when someone discovers Jeremy Brett's Sherlock Holmes. He was born to play Holmes.
I am (and this is appalling) 41 years late to this party, but I’ve started watching the old ITV Sherlock Holmes dramatisations, and they’re slightly old-fashioned now but Jeremy Brett is absolutely note perfect

#WorldAnimalDay is a reminder that we open our doors to all wild animals in need.

Meet the full spectrum of orphans in our care; buffalo calves, zebra foals, and countless other species who receive the same expert guidance and second chances as the elephant orphans you are more familiar with.
