Granting that as true: (2) the US also has a right to welcome foreigners and make it easy to be here lawfully: to make residency and naturalization easy.

I think deportation is cruel and unusual punishment, forbidden by the 8th Amendment. Deporting citizens is exile, which seems unthinkable. Is doing that to an immigrant -- someone who wants residency or citizenship -- any less bad? (Genuinely curious: I'm not taking a hard line about this.)

If you really want to throw a fork in the garbage disposal that is your MAGA-dysfunctional family, just dismiss any criticism of Joe Biden as "anti-Catholic bigotry" and enjoy the horrible grinding sound.

I don't affirm or deny that "life has meaning"; I say either is a category error. Meaning is a property of language, and there's plenty of that in the world. But when people talk about "the meaning of life", they really seem to be saying something about whether life is finite or eternal.

Thought for the day: initial-capping pronouns with divine antecedents is not biblical. Nor is initial-capping "god" for that matter.

Thought for the day: Catholicism had a tiny presence in the USA until well into the 19th century, with influxes of immigrants from mainly-Catholic countries. Today Catholicism accounts for about 1/5th of the population, 2/3rds of the SCOTUS, and a fair portion of the incoming executive branch.
