The structure of BAY-3827 with wild-type AMPK α2 kinase domain by @zeqiraj.bsky.social & postdoc Mohd. Syed Ayengar helped determine the mechanism of action of this compound and the limitations for its use, addressing a long-standing challenge in the field: the absence of specific AMPK inhibitors.

BAY-3827 inhibited ~30% of AMPK-dependent genes in mouse primary hepatocytes and reversed AMPK-inhibited lipogenesis. 2/3

Last week we said goodbye to Florentina, who started as a postdoc with us in early 2020. We are truly privileged for her tenacity, hardwork & diligence that helped shape our group @cbmr.science & thank her for
guiding our junior colleagues. We wish her the best for her bright future!

Today we bid farewell our diligent & hardworking lab tech, Kaltum, as she goes on her maternity leave. We will miss having her around but we are very excited for her as she embarks on her journey of motherhood. We are looking forward to welcome the tiniest member of our group, soon 🙂

Fascinating talk by Prof Gregory Radick bringing new light on the debate between Mendelian v/s Weldonian theories of inheritance and genetics. The talk highlighted the importance of re-evaluating and contextualizing the history of science during public outreach.

The first talk was by Prof. Anu Suomalainen-Wartiovaara from the @helsinkiupress.bsky.social who gave fascinating insights into mitochondrial mechanisms of neurodenerative diseases, highlighting that mitochondrial defects can be local, systemic & context dependent. #MD25
