I really recommend checking out the work of Peter Levine (the father of “Somatic Experiencing”) when it comes to stress management. His hypothesis is that unlike in the natural world, under capitalism the stress never goes “away,” so the nervous system cannot regulate/return to homeostasis.

George Orwell’s The Road to Wigan Pier (1937) explores the thesis that poor people would support progressive policies except that they don’t like progressive advocates.
