5/ Tätä näkökulmaa olemme kollegoiden kanssa tutkineet tarkemmin: Millaisia strategioita monisuhteiset ihmiset käyttävät suhteidensa ylläpitämiseen, ja miten nämä strategiat liittyvät esim. tyytyväisyyteen, sitoutumiseen, koettuun hoivaan ja kestävyyteen.
March 27, 2025 at 9:46 AM

"Participants across the [hierarchy-preference] spectrum agreed on some key points, including both that some amount of prioritizing among relationships is inevitable and that priorities are never immune from change."

What is a "primary" partner? Arter & Bunge (2025) describe a range of preferences regarding hierarchies in consensually non-monogamous relationships.

The Global Collapse of Coupling & Fertility
Coupling and fertility are falling. In Finland, Mexico, Peru, South Korea, Thailand, Turkey and the US, both metrics point downwards.

Since we did not find the same interaction when comparing those with one vs multiple partners, the findings suggest that current available sources of eroticism & nurturance (i.e. other partners) may matter less than the orientations used to approach & manage partnerships (e.g. identifying as CNM).
January 3, 2025 at 12:03 PM
This suggests that eroticism may not be as crucial to CNM individuals’ satisfaction in their primary relationships compared to nurturance. Similarly, CNM individuals in relationships characterized by lower nurturance may still feel generally satisfied if sufficient eroticism is present.
January 3, 2025 at 12:03 PM
But for CNM folks, N and E interacted:

When eroticism between the respondent and primary partner was low, nurturance had a strong positive association with satisfaction. Eroticism mattered only when nurturance was low.

When nurturance was high, eroticism was not associated with satisfaction.
January 3, 2025 at 12:03 PM
For monogamous individuals, nurturance and eroticism were again consistently linked to satisfaction—so the amount of one did not influence the importance of the other.

It may be typical and ideal for monogamous individuals to seek both sexual passion and secure companionship from their partner.
January 3, 2025 at 12:03 PM
We found that, across single- and multi-partnered people, nurturance and eroticism were positively, consistently (regardless of the level of the other element) associated with relationship satisfaction. Interestingly, the association looked different when we compared monogamous and CNM folks...

Our sample included:
* Single-partnered individuals (n=289)
* Multi-partnered individuals (n=335)
Some participants identified as Monogamous (n=217) and some CNM (n=399), so we explored how the aforementioned factors differ by current relationship behavior & identity.
January 3, 2025 at 12:03 PM
The study examines nurturance (warm loving feelings, closeness, caring) and eroticism (sexual passion, bodily pleasure, arousal) as key factors in romantic satisfaction. While monogamous relationships typically rely on both, CNM #relationships may distribute these needs across multiple partners.

Check out our NEW✨ study w/ @justinmogilski.bsky.social & Shari Blumenstock, available #OpenAccess! We investigated how nurturance and eroticism are associated with relationship satisfaction in monogamous vs. #CNM individuals from multiple countries. The results are pretty intriguing!
Nurturance, Eroticism, and Relationship Satisfaction Among People in Monogamous and Consensually Non-Monogamous Relationships
Satisfying romantic relationships often feature high levels of nurturance and eroticism. Consensually non-monogamous (CNM) individuals may experience these with additional partners, potentially red...
