This is the stuff I'm a doomer about. Real journalism takes time - even a quick, original 700-word story requires a lot of legwork, relationships, etc.
It can never compete with instant slop, or accounts that just plagiarize news for free with more sensationalistic (and wrong) framing.

Facts are boring. Conspiracy theories are exhilarating. Besides, fact checks are happening in spaces where the lie consumers aren't. No Fox News, OAN, Newsmax, NY Post, WSJ oped consumer is reading Politifact or Kessler. JFK is alive, after all.

I know many people said they voted for Trump and the R’s because they focused on inflation and the cost of groceries and I might have believed that, BUT the central messages of Trump rally highlights and Trump flags were all about xenophobia and hate and never about cost of living…

These nominations are the flood the zone strategy for authoritarian HR: if you nominate a ton of crazy unqualified zealots, the Senate will confirm all but a few. Hegseth likely gets confirmed because of Gaetz and RFK drawing fire.

Relative greatness can be achieved either by climbing higher or by pushing down those around oneself. There is nothing admirable about those who do the latter.
