Mike, thanks! I have enjoyed revisiting places to see what they look like in infrared. I have also found that infrared works well in cloudy and overcast conditions.

Around here (north Puget Sound), if you see harriers hunting over open fields in late fall and winter, there is a decent chance that you may see a SEO. I have had good luck setting up about two hours before sunset, and then just waiting. If nothing else, you can enjoy the harriers!

Rain, thanks! They are beautiful raptors, and fun to just watch. They glide low over fields, seeking voles. Once they spot one, they can almost turn on a dime to dive down and strike their prey. They often compete with Northern Harrier hawks in similar environments, looking for the same prey.

What I meant was that at a macro level, it looks like banded rhodochrosite at a much, much smaller level. That is so cool!
