Here is a Canadian Goose in Skagit Bay. While we see more Canadian Geese in winter around here, we actually see them year round. This image was taken 4/28/2019, while kayaking.

Here is another short-eared owl in flight. This image was from the winter of 2019. SEOs are diurnal - active in the daylight hours around dawn and dusk. In recent years, some of their typical hunting areas have been gotten quite crowded with bird and wildlife photographers.

Short-eared Owl, Leque Island, Washington. Image taken 2/13/2017. Leque Island used to be prime habitat for short-eared owls and other raptors. But the former farmland has recently been restored to its original habitat - tidal marsh and estuary. A loss for raptors is a gain for juvenile salmon.

Went out looking for waterfowl and raptors, but came up a bit short. I saw a fair number of birds, but only the mallard ducks came anywhere close to me. Still, it was nice to get out during our rainy season. Image taken this afternoon at Hayton Preserve, Fir Island, Washington.

Some of our wintering swans (mostly Trumpeter Swans, but a few Tundra Swans) are back for the season. These were flying in front of Mount Baker.

It is that time of year - for the initial snow falls of autumn. This is Mount Baker, with Sherman Peak to the right of the summit, and the Black Buttes (now snow covered) to the left of the summit. The ridge line with a dusting of snow is the Twin Sisters range. Image taken from Fir Island, WA.

Here is a favorite image of mine. A bunch of snow geese, blocking the view of Mount Baker. Image taken on Fir Island, Washington, on 4/7/2012. Over the last five years or so, some of our former wintering snow geese have been wintering over on the east side of the Cascade mountains.
