Citizens United unleashed a flood of corporate money in politics. State trigger laws can prepare the ground for real reform when the Court changes course. bit.ly/3Xsczat
State Legislatures Can Push Back Against Citizens United
State lawmakers can fight the influence of big money in politics by passing trigger laws that would go into effect if the Supreme Court’s misguided ruling is reversed.

Republicans in Congress could end the Trump shutdown today by passing a budget deal that protects your health care and takes away Trump’s blank checks.

Let your legislators hear from you.

If "states' rights" mean anything, they must include the right to not get invaded by another state in peacetime.

Media “Make clear they are [humans] writing for people” 💖

Humans can summarize a situation where AI seems to be sooo dogone verbose (which is great for background/supporting material).
Media outlets can't pivot to AI to save themselves. It's not a business strategy and it's not going to work. The only path forward is for journalists to lean into their humanity, to do things AI can't, and to make clear they are writing for people, not algorithms:

The Media's Pivot to AI Is Not Real and Not Going to Work
AI is not going to save media companies, and forcing journalists to use AI is not a business model.

Citizens United and related cases must be rescinded! And bring back the fairness doctrine in reporting!

A wonderful history of an admirable leader
Thank you for sharing this story, definitely worth a read and relevant to today's political situation.
"What would she think of Ted Cruz (a modern-day McCarthy figure if ever there were one), Mike Lee, Tommy Tuberville, and Lindsey Graham? Would she make another Declaration of Conscience to compare Trump and his sycophants to McCarthy?"

I recommend printing some of your important SSA records as this could get wild.
Having worked in pharmaceutical software management this change is huge. And hopefully they keep records of the modifications!
DOGE Plans to Rebuild SSA Code Base in Months, Risking Benefits and System Collapse
Social Security systems contain tens of millions of lines of code written in COBOL, an archaic programming language. Safely rewriting that code would take years—DOGE wants it done in months.

At the surface this policy change is “weirdly blind” to an historically known concern. What could possibly go wrong?
There’s a major shift in U.S. cybersecurity policy. A recent CISA memo removed Russia from its list of priorities, focusing instead on China and local systems. Analysts were told not to track Russian cyber threats.
