Normalize giving receipts to the woman divorcing your ex-husband. It might dissuade him from going to trial, for fear of you testifying, and save her $10k-plus in legal fees.

Also, normalize saving juicy receipts indefinitely.

Parenting is the 4-year-old asking what “propaganda” means, creating on-the-fly Paw Patrol fan fiction featuring Mayor Humdinger to try to explain it, and being told sternly that this is not canon.

I strongly feel that North Idaho’s official slogan should be “North Idaho: Not as Racist as You Might Think,” because yes there are racists but if you get too racist you’re booted out of town, and also our county elected a Black woman to our highest office before the wider US did the same.

We need a calculator quiz so Americans can input their income to see how much they’d be compensated for the sale of our collective public land ($0) and how much their fire/flood insurance would go up (more than $0) @altusfs.altgov.info

Sign for today: “The foreigner must be treated as the native-born,” Lev. 19:34. I’m in small-town Idaho and small-town protests are as much about breaking through the propaganda as anything else.

Being a generalist means that today I finished a reported piece on how Trump’s policies will affect the global translation industry, submitted a relationship essay, and scheduled an explainer on Idaho’s land use act. All before I picked my kid up from Pre-K.

I taught English 101/102 and my best ideas involved hand-writing in class, and turning a class a week into one-on-one office hours discussions about what they’d written. That was in 2007.
Honestly, this feels like drastic measures time for the universities that can afford it.

E.g., issue e-ink laptops without an internet connection that only allows export to write papers. (You could hand-transcribe a ChatGPT paper, but I imagine it’d still reduce use.) nymag.com/intelligence...

Biggest turnout I’ve ever seen for a Sandpoint protest. People lined the streets for several blocks… in a town of 9,000 in rural Idaho.

My ex, who made $36k per year working full-time for the forest service, just resigned because the job had gotten so stressful after the recent firings. He’s moving 6 hours away to do private tree work in Seattle. He just explained to our 3-year-old that he’s moving, and she wants to know why.

The problem with writing satire is that once I start, the only thing I want to write is satire. But I gotta do my day job of sincere, math-conscious grantwriting.

Got some satire in McSweeneys. The most unrealistic part of this is probably the idea of Elon Musk writing in clear and complete sentences.

Theoretically, I have both the skills and the location to survive a fairly heinous economic disruption. I was homeschooled by preppers. But realistically, isolationism will destroy us.

The silver lining of being rejected for so many pitches over the years is that I may not make it onto the list of journalists to lock up, when and if it comes to that. Yay failure!

I literally used this phrasing in the email I wrote to my Reps yesterday. I also said that if Trump isn’t checked, I’m never having another kid, even though I’m in a committed relationship with a man and have only one child.

I’m begging women to make it clear that Trump will hurt the birth rate.
"Donald Trump is acting like a king, and that's unamerican. That's not what the founding fathers fought for and it's not what the state of X elected you to do." is a very commone American, heartland, love God and the flag thing to say, for real!

Let’s start doing more living room clothing swaps. Anti-capitalist community building that’s actually fun. Bonus, you get to see how weird sizing is for different brands.

I’ve been sick for a month to fluctuating degrees and last night decided to absolutely roast myself in the hottest bath I could stand, mimicking giving myself a bad fever for 10 minutes. Seems like it worked. Cold plunge whatever, heat plunge is the way to go.

The most straightforward thing is just not to use tech connected to the grid in any way. Which makes organizing pretty hard, obviously. But always keep in mind that if it can connect to the grid, it can probably be used against you. So maybe start tech-banned … let’s call them churches.
What are some accessible Infosec & Opsec resources that activists, journalists, and organizers can turn to in preparation for the Trump admin?

Preparing for a fascist regime can feel scary and paralyzing. This seems like an area where people can take control w/ concrete steps.
