Ages ago, Sociological Images wrote about this. It included an overhead view of the distance between the bus stop & the main entrance.

Anyone who can't walk more than a full block carrying all their purchases (and possibly kids) is going to need to drive.

I just today picked up my brand new Tern NBD bike & then rode it 13 miles. My hip & thigh muscles would like to say that you do too get exercise with an ebike. 😁

If you can afford to donate to the pirate site, you can afford to buy my books

Look, I am very small potatoes as an author. I make too little in royalties to live off them. But I can tell you the reason I got to write my 2nd book was bc the sales of the 1st were very good. That's what else you're eating into by pirating, our ability to keep writing what you claim to love.

For ebooks $2.99-$9.99, pretty much everyone pays around 70%. Amazon math is a little tricky over $9.99 for independent authors, but most of us know how to price so we get the proper royalty.

For under $2.99 it varies a lot more, but assume 35-40% range.

I did a thread a few weeks ago of "authors link your stuff" & one of my author friends who is one emergency away from being homeless had a massive spike in downloads on Anna's Archive from people *who follow me* complaining about how they are poor & should be allowed to steal from other poor people

I've been told I could get a rear bike trailer if I want to use it more as a cargo bike, but the bike does have a max carrying capacity of a bit over 300 pounds & I take up 210 of that, so I'm fine using it as a regular bike for now.

*less likely to tip when there's something in the basket.

I also prefer to have my bag in the front where I can keep an eye on it rather than behind me.

I also sprang for a front basket because I want to be able to put my messenger bag in the basket without turning it sideways. Tern baskets bolt to the frame instead of the handlebars & front wheel. This means the basket doesn't move with the wheel, which makes the bike less likely to tip.

The seat is on spring suspension bar, so it's pretty comfortable & the seat itself it very cushy. A wider seat would probably be slightly more comfortable for my 210-pound butt, but my butt felt perfectly fine at the end of my 13-mile ride.

...disliked it even more these last 3 years because my foot injury has meant having to walk even slower.

During most of the ride home I kept thinking how much I loved being able to ride a bike again!

I love the fact that it has multiple levels of assist that I can raise & lower with the press of a button! I was able to get up a steep hill that I have to walk my regular bike up without much more effort than riding up a very slight incline.

I dislike walking because it's so slow & I've...

...clothes & not get my clothes dirty). It also has front & rear lights (important since it gets dark here before 5 pm in winter).

I rode it 13 miles from the bike shop back home, which I never would have been able to do on my regular bike, given my current age & physical condition.

I got a Tern NBD S5i which is a step through (so I can ride while wearing skirts) with a low center of gravity (more stable = less likely to re-injure my foot) & a carbon fiber belt instead of a chain (needs less maintenance). Front & rear fenders & fully covered belt (so I can ride in normal...

I got a refill on the pot &, after drinking half of it, have realized I need to not finish the other half if I want to be able to sleep tonight!
