Starting a new bit of fun and spotted a familiar name here at the beginning. Hadn’t realized this book was about the events involving Pynchon’s ancestor.

Enjoying reading things to help me cultivate a vision as I start on this teaching journey.

Love this as a goal for education.

More and more I want to throw devices into the sea, simplify, and focus.

A friend sent me this.

I have some quibbles:

So many good lines in this book: “The capitalist economy and bicycle riding have this in common: stability requires forward motion.”

Content aside it’s been a pleasure to just read some surprisingly good writing in a book I wasn’t really interested expecting it from.

Also- we must end capitalism.

Trying to escape present horrors by revisiting this nation’s many past horrors.

Currently disappointed with how little the curriculum where I am training to teach engages with this history. 📚 🗺️ 🍎

🫏 📖 A few days off work for medical things and yessss trying to catch up on Don Quixote.

And I *finally* got myself a big comfy cross legged desk chair for reading/schoolwork.

We’re back!

“The unavoidable necessity of growing up and getting a job in the US forces us all to become less than we could be: less free, less secure, in short less happy.”

Finding my #teacher credential classes unsatisfying, so making my own #education reading list.

Any recs out there?

Read a chapter or so of this in college way back last Millenium and it made such an impression I decided - since I’m becoming a teacher - to order myself a copy and see how it’s aged.

Let’s goooooo
