For 12 consecutive seasons, we’ve cheered Olathe South’s Cross Country team as each of our 3 kids have competed. All of us have been caught in the slipstream of the effort.

How many times have you heard someone ask rhetorically, “Who’s to know what the truth is? Who’s to say?” At best it’s a convenient escape hatch. At worst, a manipulative tool. When you hear “Who's to know, who's to say?" answer "I am!" Not from pride but from love of what is real.

The survival of just one person from the plane crash in India is so unfathomable it makes other aeronautical mishap survivals seem normal by comparison.

“Find what you love and let it kill you” is a message that resonates with many… but is it a myth? And to those who embrace it as a mantra, does its roots even matter?

This is an origin story that’s consumed me. It speaks to how we live our lives and how romanticism leaves off the ugly endings.

Growing up the son of a jail and prison chaplain provided me a perspective of the world (and approach to it) that was… unique. I’m grateful for it and consistently intrigued by the stereotypes that follow me, as they did him.

A new exhibit now stands in the Kansas City Chiefs Hall of Honor— a tribute to Jim Tyrer.

This is what class and courage look like.

The Chiefs didn’t have to do this. But they did — because they knew Jim and Martha. More than a tribute. It’s a statement.

Today would have been Jim Tyrer’s 86th birthday.
This past year, for the first time in 44 years, he was a finalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame — allowing the world to get a glimpse of who he truly was. A person whose legacy was far greater than the worst moment of his life.

Interesting tidbit about Moss and Owens. Ironic, too, when you read accounts of how poorly Polian treated others (numerous accounts.) They called his days “The Polian Reign of Terror.” Indianapolis Star reporter’s assessment after Polian firing in screen grab:

It's now public knowledge (ESPN) that at least 2 #PFHOF voters openly broke HOF rules in an effort to block Jim Tyrer's induction into the Hall... based on those voters insistence on being arbiters of morality. Let that sink in as you watch this.

We await the vote outcome.

Bad things happen that aren’t the product of bad people. Chris Nowinski, CEO of the Concussion Legacy Foundation says the Jim and Martha Tyrer case is one such example. Still there are those who insist on overlooking the facts of the case…

Jim and Martha were known for doing for others… little selfless acts. Notice the group picture? You may recognize some of the faces. There’s Ed Budde, Stenerud, Bobby Bell… Stef Tyrer and Jason Tyrer are in front. They all came together in 2020 when we screened a short documentary “A Good Man”…

Stenerud is one of many Kansas Citians who stepped up to embrace Jim and Martha Tyrer’s kids following the murder suicide in 1980. What did he do? He doesn’t think he did much but they remember it vividly…

A 2024 resolution was to put a new creation a week on a tab of my page. The spirit of the idea was right. Only uploaded a half dozen however. Refine for 2025? 🤔
