Parenting is full of humbling moments.

Such as discovering that you're really terrible at drawing Dumbledore. (Left is mine, right is my husband's)

i know it's cringe to post star wars as ~revolution~ or whatever, & that's not what this is, but I do think about this sequence from Andor a lot bc I know how paralyzing it is to feel overwhelmed. So, I'll continue working in the lanes where I feel the most needed/helpful.

Speechless. As attorneys, we are officers of the court--of the justice system. We have a legal, ethical, and moral obligation to uphold the rule of law. This is antithetical to everything our profession demands.
It is a sad day for the legal industry. Paul Weiss, didn't just bend a knee, it set a new standard for shameful capitulation. This is a stain on the firm, every one of its partners, and the entire legal profession.

Sometimes, my daughter says something and I'll think: you are the kindest sweetest smartest person on the planet and I don't know why, but I get to experience magic in this moment & for that, I am lucky. For that, good job mama for having the luck to grace the same world as this tiny fairy being.

things making my 2yo laugh: the tadpoles in Totoro, riding the broom like a magic broomstick, that time I dropped a breadstick and involuntarily said "EEP," her daddy pretending to be Pikachu, the display of Harry Potter books at Barnes & Noble, the raven we saw digging in the dirt with his beak

does this much love feel so painful because I am human, or in spite of being human?

It's been clear for a while, but after today, I don't think ANYONE can say with a straight face that the administration isn't enacting project 2025

From the blog this AM:

"Motherhood often feels so big. So overwhelming, so compounded, so multilayered with things to do, things to think, things to account for. And the stakes? You learn that even a lost sock can become a disaster, a logistical nightmare."

today was my favorite version of Las Vegas weather: drizzly and grey, just enough chill to convince you to wear a sweater as you go outside to smell the musky green scent of wet sagebrush; mountains cozied in marshmallow clouds; air crisped free of dust, making the neon lights seem even brighter

Johannah, I love this! Perfectly plays on the line before, and speaks to my ex-academia heart ❤
3: Marlene closed her eyes and pictured the waves crashing at her feet, threatening to drown her. She was too tired to remember if they represented her mountain of remaining research, her relentless PhD advisor, or her ridiculous optimism.

Oh this is gorgeous! Perfectly encapsulates the feeling of having a maybe-too-strong cup of coffee or tea
2: But not the kind that could save her. No, this whistle was surely half-bird, half-woman, all song: the kind that would only lure her further into the wild waters of ambition.

want to write a piece of flash together? I'll start with a line, you add!

1: To Marlene's foggy, sleep-deprived mind, the whistle of the kettle sounded like a siren.

Toddler: "mummy!"
Husband: "a mummy?"
Toddler: "yeah!"
Husband: "actually, that's an ice cream sundae, but I appreciate the attempt."
