🦇We’re putting MPs on ‘Notice for Nature 📢

4 of 11 Red Listed British mammals at risk of national extinction are #bats. We can’t afford further loss of protections🚨

If Government doesn’t fix the the #PlanningBill it must be rejected by Parliament.

Recently heard that a small householder extension project where #bats are present has been given the go-ahead at the appeal stage. The inspector stated ‘the submitted #bat survey report is a robust assessment, to which I attach considerable weight’. #FeelingChuffed 🦇

Happy International Day of Women and Girls in Science!! 🥳 Proud to be a @vincentwt.bsky.social volunteer 🦇
Happy 10th Anniversary #IntDayofWomenandGirlsinScience As we celebrate 50 Years of VWT, we are lucky to have had many women — staff+vols — making a real difference for threatened mammals in Britain, Ireland and wider Europe. We look forward to many more as we work in partnership and collaborations.

Lovely article in this week’s #BigIssue on #DwayneFields and his appointment last year as #ChiefScout. Such a great role model for young people, in an organisation that supports developing life skills, exploring #nature and generally having outdoor #adventures. Nature is for everyone! @bigissue.com

Sometimes an early morning start and a cold bike ride to the train station is worth it ☀️ Off to #Cardiff to discuss #NBB and the #DECCA framework with #WelshGovernment - fingers crossed the planning approach in Wales continues to stay positive for #Biodiversity

This might be the coolest bit of news I’ve heard so far in 2025 🦇
Unbelievably exciting news, a Greater mouse-eared bat has been found during an #NBMP hibernation survey in Dover! This is the first record of this species in Kent since 1985.
Well done Claire and huge thanks to @fionamathews.bsky.social and Dr John Puckett for helping to confirm ID

For anyone else either worried or not aware of what is coming out of Number 10 at the moment in relation to nature & planning, this is worth a read👇🏼 So many people have worked long & hard to protect habitats and species over the decades - these proposals could undermine the lot extremely quickly.
THREAD! 🧵8 reasons why the word NIMBY (Not In My Back Yard) needs to go in the bin. 🚮

The government is using this term a LOT because it does ideological work. It portrays the community as a mindless, grumbling, zombie mass who oppose all development on the grounds of selfish self-interest.

My 6 year old’s response to discussions at a recent bat club meeting. #TrainThemYoung 🦇 I reckon he’s nailed a fair few basic principles here! #Bats

I’m sure this will be a brilliant evening! 🦇
🦇The Swansea Bay Stars of the Night project is shinning a light on the lesser horseshoe #bat. #Wales holds 61% of the UK population of this species, many of which call the Gower region their home.

Join #NaturAmByth in an exciting event to learn more about this species! See image for more info
