I think what we have here is a shuffle towards authoritarianism to enable kleptocracy. Anything that looks principled is for the purpose of influencing a sliver of base, & often coming from somewhere else. At least some of the spite actually comes from Trump. One more detail that I find very funny: when I ordered this license plate frame from Amazon* 10 years ago, I did not have to special order it, it was apparently a STOCK ITEM.
