No lawmaker in Congress should be able to buy, own, and sell individual stocks. Period. Let's make Congressional stock trading illegal.

Republicans got some sudden and unexpected bad news Tuesday when a three-judge federal court blocked Texas from using its new GOP-drawn congressional districts. Our new Digest examines why a Trump appointee made this momentous ruling and what it does—and doesn't—mean for the redistricting wars.
Morning Digest: Court blocks new Texas map, dealing surprise blow to Republicans
An appeal is already underway, but the GOP's redistricting push could backfire massively

In response to the TX ruling, Dem Rep. Lloyd Doggett says that "I have a renewed opportunity to continue serving the only town I have ever called home."

Whoa: A federal court just barred Texas from using its new congressional map, drawn by the GOP to target Dems.

"Substantial evidence shows that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 Map."

Court says the old map must be used in 2026. Appeals are certain. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

Court ruled the TX gerrymander is illegal in part bc it was spurred by a letter from Trump's DOJ that demanded a redrawing for explicitly racial reasons.
(First 2 images.)

@mcpli.bsky.social had told Bolts of DOJ letter: "starts to look a lot like intentional racial discrimination."

Where things stand right now in states that have drawn new maps:

• TX: Blocked by court (+5 R max)
• MO: Likely to be blocked by referendum (+1 R)
• NC: +1 R at most, could be zero
• OH: Up to +2 R, could be zero

• CA: Likely +5 Dem
• UT: +1 Dem

Other new maps could also emerge.

The mechanics of gerrymandering are pretty complicated, as are the "natural" biases that exist in different states. These biases can shift dramatically depending on the exact granularity of seats (e.g. does each seat have 50k, 100k, 500k, 800k, 1M seats).

Both parties should support this. Using AI to generate a video of a candidate saying something he didn’t say should be illegal. Especially since many voters think it is real. I will condemn any candidate from either party who does this.

For decades, any Utah Democrat who wanted to go to Congress had to campaign as a moderate or conservative. Now that the state has a solidly blue congressional seat, though, running as a progressive is suddenly an effective strategy.

Also: I was annoyed provisional ballots weren't reallocated back to precincts like early in-person early ballots and mail-in absentee ballots (regular and PE), so we passed my bill SB 1044 this year to do that.
So now you can see provisional vote totals by precinct.

Yes we need generational change and new blood in the Democratic party.

However, if your automatic reaction when seeing "person X who is related to politician Y is running for office Z" is to boo them without knowing anything about person X's merits or policies, then you are a hateful clown.
