Prince Andrew is giving up all his titles in response to the Epstein fallout and not a single news org has run the headline “The Pedophile Formerly Known as Prince”

Come on, media! You’re missing a golden opportunity!

r/Fantasy's Book Bingo has been going on for a decade now. Consider if it deserves a Hugo nomination for "Best Related Work"!

(in my wholly unbiased opinion it definitely does)

If this acknowledgement doesn’t get #BookSky to read Nghi Vo’s excellent The City in Glass, nothing will

This explains so much about how Elon has both an enormous family and serious incel vibes
I can't believe I just learned that most of Musk's many children have been conceived through IVF so that he can "control" the pregnancy and because he says he doesn't have time for sex.

To each his own and all that, but he's weirder than most.

Shout out to the South Korean parliament for having a backbone. Imagine if American politicians managed to learn from the novel idea of *checks notes* actually trying to stop illegitimate power grabs

We got tricked by science fiction into thinking a futuristic city is all about flying cars and crystal towers and hologram billboards but what it really looks like is nice apartment blocks, good mass transit, pedestrian zones with shade trees and safe bike lanes.

i’ve been seeing people joining bluesky saying their feeds are dull or slow and want more people to follow, i put together a startpack of people i think are very funny, smart, i’m friends with, and people we had on western kabuki!

I saw an author thread about anti-intellectualism in reading. They revealed they'd paid a book review site for "honest reviews" but then the reviews were poor quality. Buddy, the problem isn't anti-intellectualism, it's that you used a sketchy service and got scammed

one of the reasons bluesky works differently is because early users waged a successful fight to get the devs to prioritize safety features to protect communities at risk

as a result bluesky now has a suite of controls that i think are unmatched on social media

here’s the list, lmk what i’ve missed

I think we're reaching serious legitimacy crisis levels for prestige media. Coverage this election has been so bad that many are reaching their breaking point. This article isn't even a particularly bad offender but patience for this sort of rhetoric is at an all-time low
literally the first thing trump did was the ban Muslims from the country. Do people not remember lawyers mounting up in airports across the country trying to reunite families?

Are people's memory THIS FUCKING SHORT??

Also let's not forget, the Supreme Court UPHELD THE BAN.

i'm gonna lose my mind.

Let me be the next mayor of New York. I have the progressive politics and lack of corruption that voters crave while still maintaining the city’s timeless mayoral tradition of clearly despising NYC and thinking I should be in charge of it without living in it

People complain about celebrities being performative but Taylor Swift endorsed Harris last night (a full month earlier than when she endorsed Biden in 2020) and it still wasn’t fast enough for some very vocal people who spent weeks theorizing that she was a secret Trump supporter

Obviously, I can't know for sure without the direct context but the "worldbuilding is fascist" poster is clearly trolling, right? That's the only explanation I have for a take this incendiary and this disconnected from reality made in such a dashed off way

A horrifying glimpse into the logic underpinning prestige media’s broad failure to meet our current political moment: competence isn’t entertaining enough
wow haunted by this nyt opinion (obviously) analysis of night 1 of the dnc. like.... this is shouting the quiet part

Thinking about how 6ish years ago, the guy who joked "Trump wants to watch the gorilla channel" was roundly scolded by the entire media. Now whoever first joked "Vance fucks couches" is basically a national hero. Dems have made great progress in the field of trolling
August 7, 2024 at 3:24 PM
Vance is so unlikable even to the people who are planning to support him that there's a good 70% chance they're currently fighting back the urge to join in on the couch fucking joke
