I love poetry, literature, history, art, music… the humanities.

hey if your name is Celeborn and you live in the golden woods of Lothlórien your mates are at the tavern calling you “Teleporno” and they’re all giggling

Remember, even on the darkest night, you can usually find a little light.
It's usually an ancient witch-light, leading lost travelers to their doom in the mossy woods, but the sentiment remains.

Really quite disheartening and disappointing to see the Tolkien Society hosting a discussion on “AI in fantasy filmmaking” this year at Oxonmoot.

It feels about as morally and philosophically opposed to Tolkien’s work as a talk on the benefits of deforestation.

Waternish

The path is steep, packed with stones and mud
From the bend I see roof beams
Broken, sagging or fallen
I don't venture
But stand at the gate
Looking out over the sea
Knowing Finn McCool
Strode here
When young, we sat in our basalt throne, warmed by light
We were kings

This is a gorgeous daytime listen (not sleep safe) from under the trees on the Warren. Listen to the birds welcoming the start of another hot August day.

We're all trying to get by, in our own way.
And if your way involves ancient magic, enchanted daggers, and secret rituals in mossy ruins in the dark end of the forest, so much the better.

While this type of honor for Tolkien would be absolutely deserved, I am not so sure that I like the idea, considering some of the themes in his work (particularly The Hobbit)…

Reject world domination! Embrace second breakfast! The whole world doesn’t belong to you, but the “food and cheer and song” of Hobbiton is better than hoarded gold anyways. 🤎 Inspired by a comment I received on another post.

'The West Wind.' (1903) Despite being one of the most interesting and original artists working in England in the first quarter of the 20thC, Frederick Cayley Robinson has not been the subject of a monograph, nor has there been any major retrospective of his work since 1977.

“We just want to stop people being murdered. There’s people starving to death, people being bombed every day.”

A shame so many are far more outraged by a satirical band than the ongoing slaughter of 10s of 1,000s of children, with full support of the West.

Popular opinion: that’s not writing, that’s lazy, planet-killing theft, babes.

A writer writes. Liars, polluters and thieves who refuse to try, grow and learn use gen AI.

Hope that helps.
