To be fair, the “references to history” part is maybe a little nuanced, because Musk routinely references history, just, like, not in a good way.
Sometimes that means he does Nazi salutes, and sometimes it means he misunderstands the Roman Empire, but he’s referencing *some* kind of history, often…

It's most common in professions that are built on large imbalances in power between one leader and a lot of people who are dependent upon that leader.
So, directors and producers (both film and theater), and pastors are disproportionately likely to be sex creeps, if only because of opportunity.

The *point* was a that it’s going to be harder to maintain that electoral momentum when the Democratic Party insists on retreating from their own victories.

Voting for a CR with nothing in return is absolutely within the definition of “supporting the Republicans.”

Yeah, most of them make the vast majority of their income from corporate donations and insider trading.
You'd have to be some kind of, I don't know, *human being* with like *morals* and shit, to give that up just to prevent *people from dying from preventable disease*.

That time when @schumer.senate.gov , titular head of the Democratic Party, refused to "vote blue no matter who" was pretty fucking telling about how little the Party actually cares about winning elections.
Senate Democrats are only in it for the money. They're getting paid to lose elections.

So far as I can tell, most Congressional Democrats are just taking corporate money for the service of losing elections.
It's a mistake to think that they give a shit about their constituents, they're just in it for the money, and that money comes from corpos who want Republicans to have a majority

I think it’s less about supporting Trump, per se, and more about continuing to get paid by corporate interests.

"Major concession" is a funny way to spell "complete collapse."
And it's WILD because the Democratic Party is (checks watch) FIVE DAYS OUT from giving the Republicans an absolute *drubbing*. They're *retreating* from their own *victories*!

“They are obviously and consequentially different barbarisms—one had reproductive freedom, vaccines, and trans health care in it, at least for a while—and I can tell you why I have sincerely preferred one to the other. But we oughtn’t to kid ourselves... Both are barbarisms.”

There’s an English prof local to me, Peter Coviello, and his writing has been going around here lately, because it’s so good.
“The storied choice between socialism and barbarism was made exquisitely clear a good many years ago in the United States, and both major parties chose barbarism.”

I think that a smart, strategic Democratic Party would see forcing the Republicans to eliminate the filibuster as a victory condition in this battle, yes.
I don’t believe that that’s who’s running the Democratic Party at the moment, unfortunately.

Yes, you do.
And you also do everything you can to create and distribute resources at the state and local level, because one of the reasons that the GOP thinks they can win this game of chicken is because they think those resources don’t and can’t exist. That’s not true, we should call their bluff.

It’s a good point, and it feels like just one more way in which the architects of this attack on the Chicagoland area have no one with any experience working here. They’ve misunderstood what makes us tick, on every possible level, and the result is that were even better organized for real opposition

Yeah, I caught this piece first, and because we’ve had some of the same students, I reached out to him to thank him for it. He was gracious and reflective and seems genuinely happy for the connection.
