Lots of interesting info in this new interview with the COO of Bluesky. Fi subscriptions coming end of year.”We are two women heading Bluesky who have been on the internet for years. We put safety first”. But does distributed labelling of controversiel content do the trick, I wonder?

When you invent the ship, you invent the shipwreck as Paul Virilio said. Story out that a ML librarian at Hugging Face created an AI training data set based on 1 million complete posts from Bluesky. Bluesky’s open fire hoseAPI allows this, like it, I suppose, allows researchers to crawl the site…
Someone Made a Dataset of One Million Bluesky Posts for 'Machine Learning Research'
A Hugging Face employee made a huge dataset of Bluesky posts, and it’s already very popular.

Interesting and thought-provoking findings which to a certain degree also reflect my own experience. Note however that findings are based on self-reported data from countries defined as having low- or medium profiency in English (Bangladesh, Bolivia,Japan, Nepal, Nigeria, Spain, and Ukraine).
Non-native English speakers need 50% more time to write a paper

When they do, they face a 2.5 times higher chance of being rejected because of language

@snurb.info reminds us that Weinberger pretty much killed the echo chamber discussion 20 years ago. + Often when people talk of echo chambers, they really mean “community”
Communities of interest are now forming on BS but it doesn’t mean the place will turn into a platform of siloed conversations.
Is there an echo in here?
The Dean campaign's demise threatens to tar the whole Internet as an "echo chamber" -- but the real closed system is in the mass media.

Today I taught a BA class in Media studies. Out of about 25 students in their early twenties, only two knew about Bluesky (and the X-odus). Obviously anecdotal evidence but I wonder when and if the under 30’s will move in here? Anyone out there with knowledge of f.i US youth and Bluesky use?

Særligt i de sidste par dage er det gået stærkt med nye brugere og dermed også posts.

Bluesky is now the #2 social app in the US, Canada, and #3 in the UK 🦋

On bsky, ~30% of y'all are posters compared to the 1% main characters on other platforms. Turns out there's more chattiness & connection when you have algorithmic choice 🤭

According to Bluesky’s own profile in here, 1 million new users have joined the app in the last week. Is this the final X/Twitter exodus, an effect of the outcome of the US election or what is going on?
