Also the "rise" in these diseases has much more to do with (a) better diagnosis and access to care (b) people not dying of other things that we have fixed. In the 1960s no one knew if you had cardiac disease, you just keeled over. And many people died first of diseases we can now treat

Great question. One reason we aren’t seeing as many lawsuits against these operations (besides the fact that litigators are stretched thin) is a Supreme Court case from 2022 that has made lawsuits against ICE operations much harder to bring. I wrote this piece at the time.
