Der müde Tod (dir. Fritz Lang)

i really liked this! it's a very sweet and honestly believeable love story and i really enjoyed those fantastical episodes. they're racist of course, which is unfortunate. but for the love story that in its failure to resist death wins something else? very nice

Le Sens de la Fête (dir. Éric Toledano, Olivier Nakache)

yeah pretty fun, not sth i'd watch usually but i feel like my parents would really get a kick out of this.

might have to watch the german remake too unfortunately, can't imagine that one is as fun

Bugonia (dir. Yorgos Lanthimos)

idk guys

the soundtrack fucks beyond belief and it looks good. the acting is superb.

i just don't know what it really says. is humanity bad and beyond redemption? but why does an outside force have to judge us about that? idk idk it just doesn't sit right with meee

Predator: Badlands (dir. Dan Trachtenberg)

i could analyse the hero's journey or whatever bc i think it'd work pretty well but i'll just say this was really fun. the cgi spectacle is cool, choreography was awesome, the final joke was so funny that we giggled all throughout the credits. yeah

finished reading Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep by Philip K. Dick

i really enjoyed this, breezed through it on the tram.

movie is a fave of mine but it's a very different story.

in the book i really loved the idea of RADICAL unwavering empathy towards ALL life. (definition of "life" pending)

Die Hard (dir. John McTiernan)

this is an incredible surprise to me, i loved this! i mean i /like/ action and stuff sure but the incredible character work here made me SO attached to the characters and i was sooo tense for every incredible feat and man. top 5 movie bromances for sure, al my goat

Back to the Future (dir. Robert Zemeckis)

lovely to watch! i don't necessarily appreciate the focus on class and nuclear family values but they're a product of its time so i'll deal with it. other than that a gag-fest of clever connections, mostly but not exclusively around the time travel

Das Kabinett des Dr. Caligari (dir. Robert Wiene)

i just love this one so much, it's so cool and looks great. the twist ending stays surprising and the sets are soooo well done. not a single right angle on that set.

cesare my androgynous somnambulist you will always be famous (and sexy)

Annie Hall (dir. Woody Allen)

i can appreciate the wit but i found it hard to laugh about this guy because he's such a broken man stuck in his ways. i get that's supposed to be the parody or whatever but i just couldn't really enjoy laughing about him

the mcluhan gag is very funny though

One Piece Film: Strong World (dir. Munehisa Sakai)

this was fun! i really liked the gags (though idk why shiki is jamaican) and the fights were good. some motivation was messy (what do you mean 'let's go to the east blue we can start our adventure over again') but generally a good time

One Piece Film: Gold (dir. Hiroaki Miyamoto)

SO FUN!! fights feel much more balanced than in z and the heist stuff was really cool, made it feel like a mini-arc!
idk if right out of dressrosa was the right time to make it but rn i tremendously enjoyed this one (& i'm glad i watched it after z lol)

One Piece Film: Z (dir. Tatsuya Nagamine)

didn't think this was the best ever but still kinda a good time. kuzan is so cool (lol). liked some gags, disliked others. w frobin moment. wrong match-ups for most fights (have usopp fight the ninja guy, come ON). ideologically weak, unfortunately.

Harold and Maude (dir. Hal Ashby)

didn't know what to expect but a really good time! the editing is so good (i paid extra attention to montage for uni) and there are GORGEOUS shots in this (apparently wes anderson's whole deal can be traced back to this film's mise en scène and i'll have to agree)
November 5, 2025 at 5:28 PM
Die Wildkatze (dir. Ernst Lubitsch)

fun visuals but i don't really like the direction they took the characters in (very deterministic)
November 3, 2025 at 7:03 PM
To Be Or Not To Be (dir. Ernst Lubitsch)

maybe the funniest thing i've ever seen. geniunely so well done and hilarious, loved it. great time for a film that's like 80sth years old? you do not notice the age
November 3, 2025 at 3:03 PM
Gattaca (dir. Andrew Niccol)

i feel very ambivalent about. had a good time in the first half. then stuff gets kinda slow. the brother thing was solved through esoteric fate-repeats-itself or sth. and then the best character, gay little jude law guy kills himself.

what am i supposed to do with that

Varieté (dir. E. A. Dupont)

this was so tense and thrilling! of course the female (non-white? i'm not 100% clear on that) character was treated like shit but did i expect that from a film released in 1925? yep.

so i still enjoyed it, just had to ignore that the woman is a straight up object (ugh)

Sherlock Jr. (dir. Buster Keaton)

this is over a hundred years old now and it's really good. i kinda want to watch it again because there's so much going on and i did really enjoy it. the special effects are so good!
October 20, 2025 at 6:11 PM
Hog Wild (dir. James Parrot)

yeah this is funny even nearly a hundred years later
October 20, 2025 at 6:11 PM
Tron: Ares (dir. Joachim Rønning)

would've WILDLY benefitted from ares and athena swapping roles because a) underdog story and maybe better acting with reversed hero/villain and b) i would've rooted for the relationship if they were lesbians

but yeah, cringefail movie, funny to watch with friends
