If the immune system is an army...
...
would you rather rely on one “super warrior” — or on a diverse team of fighters, even if none of them is the single strongest?

I’d go with the team.

Why? Check out our new study, just published in Science Immunology: www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...

Our team had such a blast at the #ATCR conference in Antwerp. Beautiful and super interesting city, fantastic line-up of speakers, and a very family-like atmosphere full of TCR geeks. What more can you ask for!

Very proud of and happy for our postdoc Michael Hiltensperger who won his first big grant last week with a stellar performance in the oral presentation round after submission of the written proposal. 1 PhD student + consumables by the IZKF @fau.de. Congrats, Michael!

Here's us during our internal Christmas party, being competitive with our Secret Santa pub-quiz game (in case you didn't notice - yes, we are nerds). Our PhD Student Carolin Moosmann, as usual, came up with an amazing gift - this year a self-made T cell immunology memory game.

It has been a wonderful year for us as a lab.

We had successes to celebrate, but also many challenges to overcome. Each of us definitely learnt a lot and grew personally.

It was a great pleasure to host many of the best T cell immunologists from our region in the Bavarian Academy of Sciences @badw.de this week. You can still find the program here: badw.de/fileadmin/ev...
🙏 all speakers, chairs and the the Academy that made this fantastic day possible.

I think we may have had this discussion at the other place already. See the “non-reactive” CD4s on the left that undergo major transcriptional shifts in our reverse phenotyping paper? Those are cytokine sensing cells without antigen specificity vs SARS-2. www.nature.com/articles/s41...

First post on Bluesky.

NEW PREPRINT from our lab. It is a first-in-humans study that is very close to my heart. "Quality of vaccination-induced T cell responses is conveyed by polyclonality and high, but not maximum, antigen receptor avidity." www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...
