I miss season 2 of the internet when Google actually worked and I didn't have to run baby animal pics through an Al checker and my washing machine wasn't texting me 2-factor auth codes

There's an academic paper here if someone wants to write it that will connect this kind of staunch antivaxism to a pro-birth/pro-adoption agenda rooted in an ideology of cishet white entitlement to children and death cult theology.
How firm is the hold of antivax beliefs?

From the parents of the 6 year old unvaccinated child who died of measles:

“Don’t do the shots,” the girl’s mother said. Measles, she added, is “not as bad as they’re making it out to be.” She noted that her four other children all recovered…

conservative evangelicals spent a quarter century explicitly tying their religious identity to the most extreme and jingoistic forms of american nationalism up to and including embracing one of the worst degenerates this country has ever produced and they refuse to take responsibility for it
He Gave a Name to What Many Christians Feel
And the feeling isn’t good. Aaron Renn has gained a following by warning that the U.S. is currently a “negative world” for Christianity.

One of the brilliant things our current iteration of oligarchs did is get people to conceive of free speech as being able to call your coworkers slurs rather than using it to say stuff like why are my tax dollars subsidizing your billionaire ass

Some people say researching history and religion is boring and pointless. I say where else will you learn there was a thing called the Affair of the Sausage?

Yes, it's as early modern Reformist German as it sounds, and it would also make a great experimental album name. #academicsky

I feel like a growing number of people in my social media sphere have started posting to Threads more than other platforms, but I don't feel like adding another thing to all the things I already have. Anyone on here have a strong feeling either way about Threads?

people constantly use "the historical explanation for how we got here is complicated" to run interference for "the moral and political question for how we should respond to this is complicated" and I want us all to free ourselves from the need to play along with this

Can someone with a degree in organizational management/HR (or who has relevant experience) help me out with interview questions for an academic job that would flag narcissists? *insert joke here about how all academics are narcissistic* Okay, yeah, no, but for real?

People have been asking me how my semester is going; I tell them I've used up all my spoons and only have knives left. 🔪🔪🔪 This is burnout, right?

I can confidently say I am likely the best emailer at my entire institution. I am able to more accurately, professionally, and collegially communicate appropriate tone than anyone else in my organization. I am frequently baffled that it's uncommon, but then again, it takes more time to
do.

Nursing academic disappointment today: a response essay I wrote to be included in a volume got lost in the shuffle & wasn't published by mistake. I know I can eventually repackage it for publication elsewhere, but it'll be time & significant additional labor to do so-things I have in short supply.

During a meeting of the Philosophy Club I co-advise, a student offered this fact about themselves:

Student: I'm [X], & I hate the police!
Other 40+ students: Yeah!
[X]: I said I hate the police!
Others, louder: Yeah! 1 more time!
[X]: I HATE THE POLICE!

I'm teaching philosophy of sex, gender, & sexuality for the first time at my CA community college. Digging into Wittig & compulsory heterosexuality today, it was fun to see students get fired up about the mental load, whether having children is inherently selfish, & whether we need gender at all.
