I’m into mega projects and how to deliver them better.
I am also known for doodling in meetings and wearing interesting brooches.

Chris Rudge has a peer reviewed article out which reveals an estimated 15,000 social security recipients were wrongfully convicted of criminal offences between 1991 and 2011 in a scandal he is calling ‘the omissions affair’. This was the precursor to Robodebt welfare.substack.com/p/the-unexam...

@dieworkwear.bsky.social can you explain yoke depth design. Is it just design or is there a functional component? Triggered by watching a 2010s show where the man’s shirt had a very narrow yoke.

Current megaproject reading.

2 key factors that got it off the ground: a great technical idea, and a time when federal government held particular sway to deliver such projects.

The world's blind eye to the nightmare problem of nuclear waste disposal
There are two questions about nuclear wastes that are never asked by the "experts", let alone answered by them.

It took me a few stops and starts but very glad I got to the end of this one.

We are watching in real time all the text book reasons why mega projects go over budget and over time.

The academic term is the ‘political sublime’.
Coalition's nuclear costs effectively comparing apples and elephants
In the world of comparing apples and oranges, the Coalition's claim that its nuclear plan would be hundreds of billions cheaper than Labor's looks to have come from comparing apples and elephants.

Thanks @squigglyrick.bsky.social for the phrase ‘semantic drift’.

In my world of mega projects, the shift has been from the ‘break/fail moment’ ( ie that point when a project has gone so bad it needs to be reorganised) to a polite ‘contract reset’.
