Just a guy on the Internet with some opinions.

No gods, no heroes, no saints - only us flawed human beings.
Forrest Gump. I think it's manipulative and cheesy.

They played "Fortunate son" at Trump's military parade. Fitting song for the chickenhawk.

Good reminder amidst all the plane stuff.
Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi went to a consulate in Istanbul to get a document he needed to get married. Instead, he was murdered and dismembered on the orders of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, now a close pal of Donald Trump.

This might seem cute and innocuous, but if you want children inoculated against diseases this is red flag central.

If an adult woman has sex with an underage man newspapers which call her "attractive" or "glamourous" are very clearly doing statutory rape apology.

I know, not really a hot take around here, but still, it's pretty disgusting when they do.

Me, scrolling twitter: this guy who talks about "degeneracy" seems way worse than the usual annoying Bible thumper, but maybe I'm just a little bit biased

Checking his profile: Nazi flag as a pinned post - I was actually right all along

I think that American culture is WAY too optimistic about the idea that anyone can be successful and pull themselves up by their bootstraps or only with minimal help.

Of course the American right is all about that, but sometimes this idea crops up in some leftist discourses.

Toxic nostalgia: when you pine for something that was changed for very good reasons just because you look back fondly to what was there before.

The Trump administration is deporting people to a prison in El Salvador without due process. They're denying entry and detaining people who criticize Trump.

These are the actions of a dictator, not of an elected representative.

There need to be marches, strikes, civil disobedience. Anything.

Authoritarian backlash in a democracy isn't new, but at least people in the 1920s/30s had the excuse of a) not knowing where it'd lead and b) having experiences a nightmarish world war and a previously unheard-of recession.

People who choose authoritarianism in the 2020s have no such excuses.

This is a job for powerful, organized skepticism and debunking of anti-vaxxer nonsense.

If only there were prominent organized skeptics and debunkers talking about this all the time...

If SCOTUS sides with Trump instead of stopping his blatantly uncostitutional executive orders, Americans should take the matter to the streets. Marches, boycotts, massive strikes. The world cannot deal with an autocratic America.

Bring back your democracy. Partecipate. Don't give into despair

Perhaps there's nothing that can be done to effectively stop fascism, or theocracy, or oligarchy, from taking power in a highly polarized society with social media. Perhaps people need to see those systems crash and burn on their own.

I may sound thin-skinned but I have a new pet peeve: when we (myself included!) use "insecure" when we clearly mean "asshole".

Teaching really insecure students shows you that there is a big difference between constantly second-guessing yourself and being cruel for the sake of it.

Possibly unpopular opinion: I think that shaming men for not having luck in romantic relationships is just as prejudicial and potentially damaging as shaming women for being into no strings attached sex.

People aren't more or less moral or right because of their "body count". Live and let love.
