Also, my child cries literally everything you give him anything. Especially his favourite food, especially when he's been asking for it for an hour.

I remember when my parents neighbour was bragging about how well her toddler was adjusting to the new baby. The next day the toddler started crying in the car because the baby was looking at her.

Yep! It starts out like a normal virus then comes the rash and/or blisters on all those bits. Blisters in your mouth are bad enough and can make it super painful to eat. And it can last weeks. So fun!
This kind of shit truly is excellent contraception. Kid germs are so gross and often horrifying.

So here's that story about sneaking the black nanny into a Vegas show, in Esther's own words:
![The children came right along with us to Las vegas. In the daytime, I could be there for their meals and take them swimming in those beautiful pools. There was no reason that they shouldn't be with us all the time now that we were staying at the Sahara Hotel. Or so I thought. The Sahara thought otherwise.
My nanny, Jane boyd, was black. Actually, she was sort of café au lait but that distinction was lost on the management of the sahara, who declared that no blacks could set foot on the premises. I had heard all these stories about Lena Horne, Sammy Davis Jr, Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, and other entertainers who were not allowed to stay at the hotels where they were headlining. I was amazed to find out that Vegas casinos never let black people even gamble. I have thought they would take anybody's money. The police in Las Vegas would step in and ask those who were black to leave the casinos. It was an ugly policy that was rigidly enforced, and Sahara was not making any exceptions for me or my children.
If Gene were to take care of my three children, they would all have to stay across the tracks from the Sahara Hotel in an apartment complex that was clearly designated for the "help". Jane was not at all happy to be treated as "help". In my home, she was family.
I had told her, "When I had my children over to you, I don't want them to feel any difference in the warmth of our arms. I want you to love them and care for them in the same way I do." And she did. I've got an idea about how we can get back at the Sahara in a small way and have some fun." Her face brightened into a big smile for the first time in weeks.
"I want you to try on this Indian sari that I brought along and see if you like it." The sari was a beautiful shade of turquoise with gold accents. Jane looked gorgeous in it. I asked her to invite her boyfriend, George, to come to Las Vegas for the last weekend of our show at the Sahara. We called a tuxedo shop to order his outfit and spent the rest of the afternoon trying to find some place that would make a glamorous looking turban. Jane and I researched the proper attire, jewelry, and makeup for Indian royalty.
