US Southerner living in Germany. Knitter, history geek, tea drinker. Always reading, and believing in her power to bake perfect biscuits. Eventually you’ll figure out who I am. Now turn up the music.
Things in Germany I like: my health insurance, Advent season, reliable public restrooms. Don’t like? German TV, Schlager, German comedians.

I have to admire his priorities.

When I was feeding Burkhard too we ate hot in the evening. Now that I work 15:00 to 23:00 I do what is most convenient. I like to make meals that last me a few days that I eat whenever I’m hungriest.

Like you I get brown sugar sent to me as well as baking soda. I like the convenience of a box. I also get double-acting baking powder sent and chocolate chips when I can. And cream of tartar. I make my own vanilla extract so that’s taken care of.

I’ve been eyeing The Agency. I think I’ll start it when Landman finishes.

An excellent point!

That is builder sized!

I know where I work things would shut down. Our employees are like 90% immigrants. I’m glad my employer values hiring immigrants.

I guess the 90s were so long ago we can romanticize it. Record store? Vinyl was dead then. And vintage vinyl shops didn’t pay shit. Ditto book stores and coffee shops? Your feet hurt too much to go to clubs. Good luck funding life on $5/hour!

My goal is to kick my bronchitis to the curb and feel good enough to make cottage pie.

Cottage pie. Chicken and dumplings. Snickerdoodle cookies.

Nice tip! After years of trial and error I figured out that the sort of beef I need to make fajitas or pepper steak is Rinderrouladen. It’s already sliced then and all that’s left is to cut it in strips.

I can’t disagree and when I’m able I’m going to get on that. You have to wash them a few times to break them in.

Thank you!!

My goodness. Praying for everyone’s safety.

It’s foolish to pass by a bargain!
January 9, 2025 at 7:25 AM
Thanks! I’d like to be well enough in shape to work next week, else it’s back to the doctor on Monday.
January 9, 2025 at 7:21 AM
Thank you! And you’re really home! I haven’t kept up with much. What a time you’ve had!
January 9, 2025 at 7:17 AM
Thank you! These good wishes always help!
January 9, 2025 at 7:08 AM
Thanks! I haven’t had so much as a sniffle in 2 years and then bam! I appreciate our guests, but could they please avoid coughing on me as I check them in?
January 9, 2025 at 2:09 AM
I have nothing but respect for those who are taking in the evacuated, for those who are helping others in their community to stay safe, and of course for those who are fighting the fires. Compared to those folks I have only minor inconveniences.

Thanks! I appreciate you thinking about me.
