The state acts for the citizens, thus we are all ultimately responsible for their treatment while in custody. We should be outraged when people are harmed in our care. We should not stand for it, not for one moment.

People forget, when immigrants come to your country to live and work - some other country has paid to raise, educate, and mind their health. That other country doesn't reap the rewards of that investment, the country they moved to does. If you hate gov't spending you should love immigrant workers.

Having been through the system, some of the ways it's cruel and weird make no sense. The medical exam alone was a miserable experience and it felt like a shake down. I cannot imagine how awful it is for someone who isn't a fluent English speaking white woman.
